Saint Mary Magdalene Pray for Us!

Since the early days of the Church, icons have been used to connect us with the saints. With their lavish use of gold, enamels and precious stones, the icon depicts the saints in a way suggestive of their heavenly glory. Our fellow human travelers have now found a permanent home in heaven. Having successfully completed their earthly journey, it is appropriate that the Church looks to their lives as models for us today. And because they, and we, share membership in the Mystical Body of Christ, it has long been the tradition to join their prayers with ours as fellow members of Christ’s Church.

With this in mind, we are inviting all members of Saint Mary Magdalene Parish to come together in prayer, asking the intercession of our patron saint, for a successful launch and completion of our building project. To accomplish this, we have acquired the icon of St. Mary Magdalene (pictured above) that can travel from home-to-home and around which we can join in prayer. We are asking you to consider hosting the icon and a prayer session in your home that neighbors can attend. This is a splendid opportunity for our Front Porch Churches to come together in prayer for the entire parish. The icon will be delivered and picked up from your house – all you have to do is open your doors to those who wish to join this one time in prayer.

Here’s how it will work. Let Richard know of your willingness to host the icon (you may choose the date and time) and how many people you can host. He will then have available a sign-up sheet at the parish information desk for others who live near you to indicate their willingness to join you in prayer. We will deliver the icon to your home along with a prayer service asking the intercession of Saint Mary Magdalene. What could be easier, yet more beneficial, to you, your neighbors and your church?
