Adopt a Seminarian

The Adopt a Seminarian program is a great way to support vocations in our diocese and encourage those who are actively discerning or studying for the priesthood.

Adopt-a-Seminarian Program

St. Charles Borromeo, Patron Saint of Seminarians

What: Parishioners “adopt” a Phoenix Diocese seminarian
When: September - May of the current school year
Why: To support our seminarians with prayers, cards, care packages, and/or letters
Contact: Email smmadoptaseminarian@gmail.com or call/text Luzinda Chavez at 480-250-2813 or Julie Hahn at 480-216-9918

Program Expectations

  1. Send letters, cards, and/or care packages 2-3 times a year, to your assigned seminarian.
  2. Please remember you are giving them unconditional support through letters/cards without expecting anything in return. (They greatly appreciate your letters and prayers, but please know that they may not respond more than once a year, due to their heavy study load.)
  3. Gift cards or cash may be sent, but it is not to exceed $25.00. (Suggested gift cards: Walmart, Target, Amazon, and fast food. The cash and Walmart/Target cards help them to cover the costs of extra things they need to buy, such school supplies, hygiene products, and black socks. They use the Amazon cards to purchase needed books.)
  4. Their mid-school and summer break times are very limited and are reserved for time with their family and diocesan-required activities. Please do not ask them to visit you during their school breaks; it would possibly put them in an awkward position of having to say no, due to their busy schedules. If they offer, then that is acceptable.

Read your adopted seminarian’s story on the diocese’s website: www.diocesephoenix.org/vocations-seminarians.php. Keep checking back if it’s not posted yet.
